Modern electric trains are usually very reliable, but like all electrical items, things occasionally can go wrong. This is why Trainz.com has now created an Extended Warranty Program for most new locomotives, accessories, operating cars, and transformers which includes a second year at no additional cost. No strings attached.
Lionel backs their trains with 1-year warranty. But what if something goes wrong a couple years later?
Also, customers can also purchase extra coverage for up to five years for items covered under the Trainz Extended Warranty Plan.
An Extended Warranty through Trainz.com offers peace of mind. A circuit board suddenly fails? We’ll take care of it. Smoke unit stops working? We’ll take care of it. Enjoy your trains, and let Trainz’ experienced repair shop worry about the rest.
Trainz is an Authorized Lionel Service Station, and two of our repair technicians have attended Lionel’s classes for servicing and repairing modern command-equipped locomotives. Our repair staff has over 30 years of combined experience repairing electric trains.
And if you purchase an extended warranty and we cannot fix it? We’ll refund the warranty price. Guaranteed.
How it works:
If you purchase a new item covered under the Trainz extended warranty plan, the first year of the warranty is covered by Lionel.
The second year is covered by Trainz, at no additional charge.
Customers may purchase extra coverage for one, two, or three additional years, adding up to a total of up to five years of coverage.
Customers who purchase the 5-year plan will be given top priority.
If a problem occurs, just send us an email, box up the item, send it to Trainz, and we’ll take care of it.
Terms and Conditions:
- This warranty covers all mechanical and electrical components except light bulbs, LEDs, and traction tires.
- For preordered items, the warranty goes into effect on the date the item is shipped to the customer, not the date the item and warranty are ordered.
- This warranty does not cover defects caused by apparent commercial use, damage resulting from misuse or abuse of the product, or normal wear and tear, such as damage to the shell or paintwork.
- This warranty applies only to the original purchaser and is non-transferable.
- Transportation and shipping charges are not covered by this warranty.
- If a customer purchases an extended warranty, and Trainz is unable to repair the item, the original warranty charge will be refunded.
To obtain Service:
If an item requires service or repair, email Trainz at customerservice@trainz.com. Trainz will confirm that the extended warranty is on file and will provide a return authorization (RA) number. Ship the item with the RA number on the box along with a brief note explaining the problem to:

Trainz will make every effort to have the item ready to ship back to the customer within 10 business days. In the event a repair will take longer, the customer will be notified.
