The prototype of Aster/LGB’s Hudson #5405 operated over the mainlines of the New York Central for nearly 30 years. It’s most noteworthy accomplishment, after being equipped with a larger tender, was hauling the Twentieth Century Limited passenger train, and other first class trains, between Harmon, NY (32 miles north of New York City) and Chicago, a distance of 928 miles (1493 km), without engine change! Equally remarkable was the Century’s schedule behind a Super Hudson: 16 hours - more than 2 hours faster than the current Amtrak Schedule with diesel power. It pulled a train of 3.6 million pounds at 60 mph.
This item has been graded per TCA standards C-7: Excellent. Introduced in the late 19th century, the 4-6-4 became a global powerhouse thanks to its reliability and power. Known as the Baltic in European countries and as the famous Hudson in North America, this train became widely commissioned all over the world, and now you can bring this icon to your G-Scale layout! This Brass 4-6-4 Hudson unit showcases breathtaking attention to detail, and captures all of the Hudson's greatest features in a G-Scale size. Both units have some bent trim pieces throughout the body. The step pieces on the tender will need to be handled with care. Both units show scratches on the body and underframe. The tender has some dents on the body. Despite these imperfections, this Brass unit is still a fine addition to your collection! This item has been serviced by our repair shop. Stuck drives were freed on both ends. The engine ran well when tested! The original box is included. Check the photos for a more detailed look at this item.
