Marklin is a world renowned toy company that was formed in 1859 manufacturing doll house accessories, but soon expanded into tin toys. Marklin released its first wind-up train in 1891.
Marklin has made trains in many gauges over the years including O gauge in the prewar years. Now Marklin manufacturers model trains in #1 (G) Scale, HO, & Z Scales. Marklin HO Trains are unique in that they have their own track system - the track has a "third rail" in the center consisting of a series of studs that locomotives and lighted cars use slider shoes on their trucks that pick up electricity from these studs in addition to the common outside rails. Marklin HO trains also run on AC electricity, all other HO trains run on 2-rail DC systems.
