Roco, based out of Bergheim, Austria, manufactures a wide range of model railroad products. If you’re looking for locomotives, rolling stock, track, signals, roadbed, buildings, vehicles, and even lights, Roco has something for you.
In the 1960’s they made model railroad cars during the original N Scale boom years for Trix MiniTrix line and Atlas. Many Roco N scale freight cars were imported and sold under many popular brands. Over the years, Roco produced models not only in N Scale, but HO and O as well.
Roco is also well known for its Minitanks line. From the 1950’s to the 1990’s, the line featured 1:90 and later 1:87 military models. The German army, the Bundeswehr also started using Roco Minitanks for their sandpit maneuver wargames. Soldiers could buy Roco models sold in their canteens to take home and start a collection. Minitanks became so popular that they expanded with terrain plates, vehicle halls, helicopters and aircraft model kits.
Roco filed for bankruptcy in 2005. Modellbahn GmbH continues what remained of Roco. Herpa has done worldwide distribution of Minitanks since 2007.
