MDC (Model Die Casting) Roundhouse started as a hobby established in 1938 founded by Clarence Menteer. Roundhouse originally featured diecast constructed car kits and parts. It was during the early 60's MDC changed from diecast metal car kits to plastic cars. Athearn supplied plastic car bodies to MDC. MDC painted, lettered, and supplied cast metal underframes.
Today the Roundhouse name is owned by Horizon Hobbies / Athearn. They no longer sell kits, but still make limited Ready to Run products under the Roundhouse name.
