Founded by Yoshio Tamiya in Shizuoka, Japan, in 1946, Tamiya is a world-renowned manufacturer of high quality plastic model kits, sailboat models, battery- and solar-powered educational models, radio controlled cars, acrylic and enamel model paints, and a wide range of modeling tools and supplies. Its first products were wooden models of ships and airplanes, but the use of plastics for models by the mid-fifties found a decrease in the company’s sale, compelling Tamiya to manufacture plastic models. Tamiya has since grown into one of the world’s leader in plastic models, the evidence of which are the several large regional divisions in the United States, Europe and Asia.
