Walthers was founded in Milwaukee in 1932 by William K. Walthers whose passion and dedication to model railroading began when he was only seven years old. Because he wrote a series of articles on building train control and signaling systems, other modelers began clamoring for him to start manufacturing these items. Although there were tough years ahead due to the war and the boom of the TV industry, Walthers became a full-line distributor of other manufacturers' products while expanding its line of products. Under the helm of his son and later his grandson, Walthers continued to thrive, and by 1994, it debuted the Line Deluxe Sets which catered to serious model railroading aficionados, as well as newcomers who were attracted by its reasonable price. Today, Walthers continually provides excellent and innovative products, ensuring that model railroading will always be fun and entertaining for kids from ages 1 to 92!
