Built from 1907 to 1930, Great Northern had 419 of its distinctive 25' waycars in series X-330 to X-749, making them some of the most common cars in service. Modernized in the 1940s, many were still in use at the time of the Burlington Northern merger in 1970. With time, they were gradually bumped into yard jobs and maintenance service. To reduce strain on the aging wooden bodies, the cupolas were removed, and were generally no longer needed for the slow speed, short trips the cars were handling. Unpainted kit features 100% laser-cut wood components with custom laser-scribed side and end walls plus laser-cut underframe, end platforms, ladders, end railing and brake wheels. Also included are cast resin platform steps, white metal smokejacks and fully illustrated instructions. Additional parts are included for building either a curved or peaked roof depending on the prototype. Detail parts for recreating one of the yard cabooses seen in BN service in the mid 1970s are also included - kit builds either GN or BN model. Decals, trucks and couplers are not included.
