The town of Dillonvale is located in east-central Ohio on the mainline of the old Nickel Plate Railroad. Dillonvale is momentarily disturbed, as a coal train blasts thru the central business district. Dillonvale is typical of the smaller, Blue-collar, working-class towns located in this part of the country. The house to the left is typical of the architecture to be found all over the mid-central and eastern-tier states. Most note-worthy is the powerful S-1 Van Swerigen Berkshire-class steam locomotive in charge of the coal laden consist in tow. These Berkshires were superlative in their performances! Built by the American Locomotive Company, Alco, these locomotives were powerful, fast, and extraordinarily handsome in appearance. The Nickel Plate's philosophy of running 60 to 80 cars with timetable discipline fit the Berkshires design well. This would earn the Nickel Plate's right to proudly advertise Nickel Plate High Speed Service on the flanks of it's equipment for many years! This class locomotive weighed in at 461,000 pounds and could easily pull a freightr train over the road averageing 60 mph, thus earning them their super-power fame for which they were recognized!
