After being relegated to a scrap yard, it was rescued and restored in 1974 - to become one of the three locomotives that proudly pulled the American Freedom Train on a 25,000 mile tour celebrating the nations 1976 bicentennial. In 1977, No. 2101 emerged as the Chessie Steam Special, in honor of the 150th anniverssary of the B\u0026amp;O Railroad. Later, after being severely damaged ina roundhouse fire, the locomotive was restored once more. It is now on exhibit at the B\u0026amp;O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, Maryland.
