This caboose has a bit of an interesting history. Originally, Lionel made the 1976 Northern Pacific Service Station Special set with a 9177 NP Caboose in prototypical green and yellow markings. However, many collectors complained that it did not match the 8666 GP-9 Locomotive, so Lionel made the 9268 the following year as an add-on to the set to match the engine. This car was never in the regular Lionel catalog and is somewhat hard to find. This caboose features interior illumination, diecast metal trucks, diecast metal operating knuckle couplers, metal wheels and axles.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis item has been graded per TCA standards C-7: Excellent based on visual appearance. This item appears to have been run, and displays overall signs of light previous use. There are nicks and scratches on the shell and chassis of this item. There is discoloration on the chassis. The couplers show spots of paint loss. The wheels show signs of average run-time. The original paint is in great shape, and the unit displays excellent overall finish. This item has been out on display previously and its overall appearance could be significantly improved with a thorough dusting or a light wipe down. The instruction manual is not included.
