The solution to high-cost, low-ridership routes was the Doodlebug. Doodlebugs were essentially a cross between a locomotive and a passenger car. The front section housed an internal combustion engine and the rear housed a passenger or freight compartment. Larger consists housed the baggage and freight in the rear compartment and pulled a passenger car behind the Doodlebug, but most were run as single units. At their peak of popularity in the 1920s, Doodlebugs rode the rails in every part of the country. Not seen in the M.T.H. product line since 2000, each unit comes fully equipped with Proto-Sound 2.0 for an unmatched operating experience. Unlike the 2000 releases, this year's Doodlebugs come with two passenger cars for a total 3-unit consist.
