The Powhatan Arrow was one of the premier trains that ran on the Norfolk and Western Railway. It ran on a daily schedule from Norfolk, Virginia to Cincinnati, Ohio and was one of the first post World War 2 streamliners to be inaugurated. The train made its maiden run on April 28, 1946 and became one of the railroad's most popular trains. The usual consist was made up of 7 smooth-sided, tuscan red and black coaches with deluxe, gold trim. Streamlined class "J", 4-8-4 steam locomotives were standard power for the train. In this painting, the train rounds a curve near Bedford , Virginia. The mountain range in the background is known as the 'Peaks of Otter'. Sadly enough, the train was discontinued in the Spring of 1969, as it made its final run.
