We Sell A Lot Of Trains!

We buy and sell a lot of trains. In 1975 Scott started his first model train business in his parents garage. Over thirty years later that business has exploded into multiple warehouses full of model trains.

We enjoy the model train business and want you to be happy with not only your purchase, but the experience of buying from Trainz.com. This is your hobby, it shouldn't be an experience you remember for all the wrong reasons.

We obtain many of our trains from private collections and defunct hobby stores. We also carry tens of thousands of new items that are either in stock at our warehouse or available for fulfillment through our many partners. We have a tremendous variety of items that is constantly changing.

We Check and Repair Our Items Before Selling Them

All of our Prewar and Postwar items are cleaned, tested, and repaired, when necessary, by one of our six repairmen. The pictures of our repair slips in our item photos are filled out by our repairmen for the specific item being sold.
With almost 8000 parts at hand, and even more available through our partners, it's rare that we find something that we don't have the parts to fix.

Hours

Our hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM EST, excluding holidays.

If you submit a question after 4:00PM EST, your question will more than likely not be answered until the following business day. If your question is about one of our auctions please ask at least one weekday before the auction ends to guarantee that you receive an answer in time.

Integrity

We operate our business with integrity and are constantly working to improve. Both Scott and Milinda are TCA members (Scott's membership number is 75-8067). Scott is also a member of LCCA and TTOS. Over the past ten years we have sold hundreds of thousands of items through our website and eBay.

Our Process and Problem Resolution

Many of our items are touched by three or four sets of hands as they travel through our warehouse. Our process is designed to help us spot problems long before an item ever gets to your door.

One of our train experts reviews every item listing to catch any inaccuracies before we list an item for sale. We strive to be as accurate as possible, but we are human and occasionally make mistakes. Sometimes we overlook things, use a duplicate picture when we shouldn't have, or miss an important detail. We'll own up to it, if you spot a mistake let us know and we'll fix it. If you receive an item that isn't exactly what you thought it would be, you can always send it back for a full refund or repair. If it is our fault we'll even pay the shipping charges both ways. We're also open to making adjustments to account for something we may have missed.

Just notify us within a week of receiving your item if you have a problem. You can quickly and easily contact us via our on-line support portal.

You may return any item that you are not happy with for any reason within 14 days of the receipt of the item, in the same condition you received it in. We will be happy to either replace or repair your item, if applicable, or issue you a refund. You must Submit a Return Ticket to arrange the return.

If you are returning the item due to some fault of ours, we will refund your purchase price, our original shipping, and your return shipping charges. If you are returning the unopened item for some other reason or requesting to cancel the order, we will refund your purchase price minus a 10% restock fee and any refusal shipment charges. Your refund will be issued within 3-5 business days after we receive the item.

Item Grading

We utilize TCA condition standards.
Item Condition
C-10 Mint - Brand New all original, unused and unblemished.
C-9 Factory New - Brand New all original, unused, may evidence factory rubs and the slightest evidence of handling, shipping and having been test run at the factory.
C-8 Like New - Complete all original, no rust, no missing parts, may show effects of being on display and/or age, may have been run.
C-7 Excellent - all original minute scratches and paint nicks, no rust and no missing parts. No distortion of component parts.
C-6 Very Good - Minor scratches and paint nicks, minor spots of surface rust, free of dents. May have minor parts replaced.
C-5 Good - Sign of play wear with scratches and minor paint loss. Small dents, minor surface rust. Evidence of heavy use.
C-4 Fair - Scratched, moderate paint loss, dented missing parts, surface rust. Evidence of heavy use.
C-3 Poor - Requires major body repair. Heavily scratched, major rust and missing parts. Restoration candidate.
C-2 Restoration required.
C-1 Junk, parts value only.
 
Box Condition
P-10 Never opened. All edges are crisp. All applicable wrap/tape is undisturbed.
P-9 Same as P-10, but item may have original store or dealer stamp.
P-8 Same as P-9, but box has been neatly and carefully opened. Box is complete including liners.
P-7 Same as P-8, but box shows moderate wear from being opened or closed.
P-6 Same as P-7, but heavy wear. Inner flaps my require repair.
P-5 Same as P-6, but very heavy wear. Outer flaps my require repair. Liners/inner flaps may be missing.
P-4 Same as P-5, but one or both of the exterior flaps are missing.

We Pay Finders Fees For Train Collections!

We are always looking for more trains to sell, and prefer to buy medium to large collections in the $10,000 - $100,000 range, or more, but of course will consider any size deal. If you are the first person to refer a collection to us, and we buy it, we will pay you a finder's fee! Our finder's fee is 2% of what we pay the owner for the trains.
