> About the Postwar Era (1945-1969)
Note: The Eras and years are most often associated with Lionel, but can also serve as a general guideline for the histories of other train makers.
When World War II ended in September 1945, the U.S. government’s restrictions on wartime production were lifted and electric train makers went back to work. The 25 years that followed the war’s end are known as the Postwar Era. The Postwar Era is the most popular among Lionel enthusiasts. Many of today’s collectors have memories of playing with Postwar-Era trains as kids. The Postwar Era was an era of mass-production. Many of the most popular trains—such as Lionel’s Santa Fe F-3 Diesel, the operating milk car, and steam locomotives with smoke—were first produced in the Postwar Era. Trainz actively searches for Postwar-Era collections and we often have many engines, cars, and accessories in stock. At Trainz we also repair and service most Postwar trains we sell.
