Weekly Quick Hits

It’s the start of a new week, and with items arriving over the weekend (sooo much G-Scale) I won’t waste too much time on introductions. From G-Scale to Pre-War this time around, it’s time to kick off this week’s selections!

LGB 22030 G Scale PEANUTS® Motorcycle

I may have mentioned in my introduction that we’ve gotten a lot of G-Scale over the last week, and even saying ‘a lot’ is a bit of an understatement. After our team here at Trainz finished unboxing everything, I noticed this little gem amongst other great G-Scale goodies that just arrived. The love for Charlie Brown spans across several generations, and I’m sure everybody can remember waking up for a Peanuts Special at some point on Thanksgiving day or Christmas morning. So how do you make Charlie Brown even more fun? LGB says to invite Lucy and snoopy along for a ride on a motorcycle, and I couldn’t agree more. Oh, and if you look closely you’ll notice Lucy clutching her favorite football. This little powered motorcycle features three of the most iconic Peanuts characters to grace the screen, and is a great way to introduce an American classic to your G-Scale layout! It’s definitely my favorite item amongst this week’s selections, and I know a few of you are definitely feeling the nostalgia rush that hit me after seeing this. If you’re looking for this item, you’ll find it here. Oh, and don’t worry we’ve got plenty more Peanuts products on our website.

American Flyer 1115 Vintage O Tinplate White NYC Dairy Reefer

For my third selection this week, I’ve decided to go down the vintage route, and managed to dig up this little Pre-War gem. This 1115 Tin-Plate NYC Dairy care is rare, and old to say the least, and I couldn’t help but to share it with you! With each passing year it’s becoming harder and harder to find Pre-War items that are in both presentable and working shape, making a find like this always a treat! This NYC Dairy Reefer saw its original release from 1919 - 1935, almost reaching the century mark in age! And boy, for being nearly a hundred years old, this car has held up phenomenally well. The lithographed #1115 on the side of the unit is the marker you’re looking for when distinguishing the rare 1115 reefer front from the more common reefers released during the same run. Trust me, this one one you don’t want to miss because it’s a vintage collector’s dream! I doubt this reefer is going to be sticking around for long. Check out the listing here if you’re interested in taking a closer look at this Pre-War marvel. We’ve also got more Pre-War goodies from Lionel to American Flyer on our website, so be sure to check out the latest arrivals.

Lionel 6-34144 O Santa Fe Scrap Yard

Well, it’s a sad sight to see – a retired diesel locomotive meeting its end after years of service. Ok, maybe we can’t save them all, but I thoroughly believe more locomotives throughout the years should’ve been preserved in museums, but that’s all for a different conversation. Let’s get back to my layout accessory pick for the week, and I’ve rustled up a fan-favorite this week. The Santa Fe Scrap-Yard features in the accessory selection in a very O-Gauge heavy batch of selections this week. Watching this team of locomotive engineers break down and tear up a locomotive is oddly satisfying, and having a brand new diesel engine roll by as they send off the old model is slightly poetic in a sense. Lionel doesn’t miss a beat with their layout accessories, and this Scrap Yard is another example of that.

ExactRail 80506-2 HO Santa Fe-As Delivered PC&F 62' Insulated Boxcar #625389

And rounding this off at the end is my budget friendly pick of the week! Ending the streak of O-Gauge products is this HO insulated boxcar coming in at under $100! The real life versions of these refrigerator cars were created by the Pacific Car & Foundry (PC & F) during the late 70’s and earned the nickname as “beef” cars mostly hauling freight like processed meats throughout the country. If you were growing up around these rail yards during the latter half of the 20th century, chances are you saw these cars a few times sporting a variety of different road names. The boxcar you see above is sporting the Santa Fe road name, and is just one of many freight cars we have from ExactRail in our inventory. Paired with some reliable Kadee couplers, this HO beef car is my budget friendly pick to end this week’s selections. Don’t forget to check out some more budget friendly HO collectibles on our website!
