Here is a Lionel 1453WS 2026 Steam Freight Set from 1948. The 2026 was classified by Lionel as a Prairie-type steam engine. It's a mid-size steam engine and was sold as an 027 gauge item. The early 2026 is a fancier locomotive compared to the later version. In addition, the 2026 shares its boiler casting with other Lionel locomotives such as the 637, 2016, 2018, 2029 and 2037 steamers: however the internal workings are different. The first version consisted of a 2-6-2 wheel arrangement with detailed driving wheel hardware, three-position E-unit, smoke, Baldwin disk drive wheels, die-cast trailing truck, sliding shoe contacts plus an ornamental bell and whistle and illuminated headlight. The whistling tender was numbered 6466WX. The 3464 operating box car was introduced in 1949 and came in two different roadnames: New York Central (NYC) or Santa Fe (AT & SF). Although each car shares the same stock number (X3464), the external graphics, color and lettering are different. Standard features include: painted car, operating plunger mechanism which operated one door, simulated man inside of the car, metal corner steps on the frame, metal doors, staple-end trucks plus a brakewheel. The AT & SF car was painted orange with black lettering while the NYC car was painted tan with white lettering. The 6465 tank car is a unique tank car in the Lionel family. It's fame comes from the fact it had the longest production run of any single-style Lionel tank car. Additionally, the 6465 contained the widest variety of roadnames used by Lionel on a single style tank car. The 6465 was introduced by Lionel in 1948 as a Sunoco tank car. From there it carried numerous roadnames such as Gulf, Cities Services and Lionel Lines. Production of the last 6465 tank car was in 1966. The 3461 Operating Log Dump car is a continuation of the 3451 operating Log Dump car of the late 1940's. Except for the number, the only difference between the cars is the 3451 had coil couplers while the 3461 has magnetic couplers. All operating log dump cars are popular cars, both in the 1950's and with the operators and collectors of today. The 3461 is the perfect car to be used with Lionel's 364 Conveyor Log Loader accessory. The first 6257 was introduced late in the 1947 production year. At the time, it was Lionel's entry level SP style caboose and contained minimal detail. The 6257 was included in several beginner sets as well as being available for separate sale.
