This is a Lionel 681 6-8-6 Die-Cast S2 Steam Locomotive with a 2046W Whistle Tender from 1950-53. Features include magnetraction, die-cast metal construction, a motor, a reverse unit, an operating headlight, an operating smoke unit, metal side rods, metal wheels and nice detail. The 681 is the same as the 671 and the 2020, but the 681 has magnetraction making it more desirable.
A powerful and innovative model, the 6-8-6 was a Steam locomotive introduced during the 20th century. The 6-8-6 was powerful at high speeds, and was initially seen as a possible challenger to the Diesel locomotives that were beginning to dominate rail-yards in North America. While the design was loved by many, the 6-8-6 would ultimately present too many problems in both maintenance and performance before actually being scrapped for good by 1960. No known 6-8-6 models exist today as the focus greatly shifted to diesel models by the 1960s. This won't stop you from running this legendary model, and with this breathtaking replica, you'll feel like you're in the cab of your very own real-life 6-8-6!
This item has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good based on visual appearance. There are nicks, scratches, and spots of rust present on both the locomotive and tender. Additionally, bodies of both items show spots of light paint wear, chips, and scuff marks throughout their surfaces and underframes. The wheels show signs of wear from previous use. The overall appearance of these items may be improved with a gentle and thorough cleaning. This item has been inspected by our repair shop. Please see the attached picture for inspection details and additional operation information. This item runs well, but the smoke does not function very well. The instruction manuals and original boxes are not included with these items. Check the photos for a detailed look at this item. Overall condition is Very Good.
