This is a Lionel 2245 Texas Special F-3 AC Diesel Locomotive Set from 1954-55. The 2245 Texas Special F3 AC unit of the mid 1950s is another set of quality F3 diesels produced by Lionel. This unit is notable in that it was Lionel's first F3 A unit to be produced with a single motor. Lionel catalogued the Texas Special F3 as an 027 gauge item. The 2245 was always sold as an AC combination. Even with a single motor and Magnetraction, it is a powerful locomotive. The 2245 is unusual in that it was produced for only two years and there are two distinct versions of both the A and B unit. The first of the single-motor F3s, the 2245 was included in several colorful sets and remains popular with collectors today. Features include a motor, portholes, operating horns, die-cast metal trucks, an operating headlight, a reverse unit, metal wheels and operating knuckle couplers. The A unit is powered, the B unit is non-powered.
This item has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good based on visual appearance. The powered locomotive's rear axle does not properly engage with the drive-shaft and may have issues pulling cars reliably. The A unit's decals are heavily scraped. The horn is non-functional. The B unit is missing a port-hole window. The port-hole windows have yellowed on both units. Each locomotive shows scratches and paint loss throughout various sections of the shell and chassis. Each locomotive shows rust on the chassis and trucks. The instruction manual is not included. The original box is not included. Please check the photos for a detailed look at this item.
