The Chesapeake & Ohio Railway, recognized by its C&O reporting mark, was founded in the 1860s to transport coal from West Virginia to the East Coast, growing into a major player in American railroading with a legacy of innovation and powerful steam and diesel locomotives. In the early 1970s, the C&O became the flagship railroad of the Chessie System. Its notable trains included the Chessie, George Washington, Sportsman, and Fast Flying Virginian.
