The Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad, known by its DRGW reporting mark and often nicknamed the “Rio Grande”, was founded in 1870 to build narrow-gauge lines through the Rocky Mountains, earning fame for its engineering feats, scenic routes, and vital role in Western U.S. railroading, and it was known for its famous passenger train, the Prospector.
