Union Pacific Railroad, recognized by its UP reporting mark, was founded in 1862 to build a transcontinental railroad connecting the central United States to the West Coast. It provided both freight and passenger service and was known for famous passenger trains such as the City of San Francisco, the Overland Limited, and the City of Los Angeles.
