Building our new home

Trainz is a lot bigger than most people think. It wasn't always that way, of course. Once upon a time we lived in a single small warehouse. But, like the Little Engine That Could, Trainz kept going.

In the video above you'll find that the Trainz business is scattered through four separate warehouses, and they're all busting at the seams. We've run out of places to put things!

The solution? We're going to be moving into a new building made just for us.

For those of you who have attended the TCA show at York, this new warehouse will be the same size as the Orange Hall. For those who aren't familiar with that building, we're talking 73,000 square feet of space for model trains. A football field, by way of comparison, is 57,600 square feet. That's a lot of trains

To build something so large requires moving a lot of dirt. That means heavy construction equipment, and let me tell you it's fun to watch them work.
Don't you just love technology? Take a drone flight over our new building and watch the months fly past.

With the foundation firmly in place and the steel walls up, it's time to start dressing up the building. I don't know about you, but the brick veneer makes me think of old train stations, or a Walthers depot kit.

Of course our new building wouldn't be very useful without a loading dock. Given the number of shipments we make and collections we receive in an average day, six bays should handle our current traffic flow and give us space to grow.

As time goes on and construction progresses, we're able to get a glimpse of what the inside of our massive warehouse will look like.

September 2024 was a busy month for our new building. The walls are up, the roof is on, and the inside is being built out.
