This is Kato 37-6104 HO AMTRAK P42 PH1 #156. GE P42 ''Genesis'' Amtrak Anniversary Phase I #156. The Genesis series of locomotives was designed by General Electric (GE) in response to a specification published by Amtrak and ultimately selected over a competing design presented by EMD. The Genesis series are unique among current North American diesel-electric locomotives because of their low height. This height restriction allowed the locomotive to travel easily through low-profile tunnels in the Northeast Corridor. Amtrak's P42 has replaced the EMD F40PH in revenue service. Today they are used throughout the United States and often operated in a mixed consist of Phase IV and Phase V schemes. The older Phase I though Phase III Schemes were recently painted on these modern units in celebration of Amtrak's 40th Anniversary.
Its key features are: Directional headlights and tail lights on both the front and rear of the locomotive, allowing it to operate as both a standard pulling locomotive with double heading capability or a push-pull engine, whether oriented facing forward or back Illuminated pre-printed number boards Capable of navigating minimum 370mm (14-3/5'') radius curves (R1 radius in Europe), allowing the P42 to go where previous Kato locomotives have never been able to go before - dining room tables, coffee tables, spaces previously reserved exclusively for N scale! Brand new coreless truck-motor drive paired with a super-heavy solid metal body mechanism; doubling the number of motors while increasing the traction potential and weight for new standard of running smoothness and pulling power These Analog non-DCC Versions not for use on DCC systems without a decoder due to the dual motor design
