Here is a Lionel 6-18009 O Gauge New York Central 4-8-2 L-3 Mohawk Steam Locomotive from 1990. This was one of the first of Lionel's Big Steam Engines of the Modern Era. Some of the great features are: operating smoke stack, headlight, and firebox that glows, electronic rail sounds, operates on O42 track or wider, retractable coupler on the pilot, and metal wheels on the pilot and trailing trucks as well as both six wheel tender trucks.
Drawing its roots from South Africa and first introduced in the early 19th century, the 4-8-2 or also commonly referred to as the "Mountain" type made waves when it first hit rail-ways thanks to a re-designed truck system that granted these powerful locomotives excellent stability when traversing at high speeds with passenger cars. Their practicality and reliability would not go unnoticed and the 4-8-2 quickly founds itself commissioned to rail-yards across the world. The 4-8-2 has since moved on from rail-yards and now several models can be found in various museums throughout the United States.
This item has been graded per TCA standards C-8: Like New. This item appears to have been run sparingly, and displays overall signs of very light previous use. There may be light nicks or scratches on the surface. The original paint is in great shape, and the rest of the unit displays a like-new overall finish.
