This is a Bluford Shops 23051 N Scale Chicago & Eastern Illinois Steel Transfer Caboose # 520. Chicago and Eastern Illinois built six transfer cabooses beginning in 1966, using the frames from old goldolas as a base. When CE&I was split between Louisville and Nashville and Missouri Pacific, 4 of the transfer cabooses went to L&N and the other two went to MP. Transfer cabooses were used for cross town hops between yards. In the post caboose era they have been used as shoving platforms providing a place for a brakeman or conductor to ride and be the engineer's eyes during long backup moves. Bluford Shops N scale already assembled transfer caboose features having Kadee #5 couplers, wire grab irons and cut levers, metal wheels and appropriate trucks for the road name.
