Christmas Time is Coming!

It’s beginning to look like Christmas, Everywhere you go! This does not exclude your at home layout! Michael Bublé said it best when he carols “The prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be.” With candy canes and silver lanes aglow, Bublé paints a scene in this popular tune that can be recreated on your layout! We have briefly covered our selection of Halloween layout accessories and buildings, but now it is time for the holiday that brings cheer to all! Christmas is a happy and magical day that takes loads of preparation. This prep includes buying presents, baking, buying and lugging home the tree (that was finally picked out) and of course, decorating! Towards the end of November, the Christmas trees are up, twinkling lights line the streets and cookie scented candles are burning in the living room. As we have stated in the past, what makes your train layout different from the real world? If your goal is to create the most realistic layout you can, then of course you need to add some holiday spirit and here at Trainz.com, we have what you need!

Department 56 Christmas in the City Sal's Pizza & Pasta Village Lit Building LN/Box

Starting off nice and simple, with this Department 56 Pizza and Pasta Village. This building does not scream Christmas, but fits in the holiday season. This is perfect for someone who wants to slowly incorporate the holiday into their layout, and someone who maybe doesn’t want any of the tacky decorations that come along with the Christmas season. You all know I am talking about the creepy blow up figures of Santa Claus accompanied by other characters that litter yards. Okay I guess I am finding that I have a strong opinion on Christmas décor, but to each their own right! With the snow spotted roof and dusted tree accessories surrounding the front door, this building encompasses a simple holiday scene without too many distracting qualities. The front door shows a snow sparkled wreath wrapped with a bright red ribbon, similar to those we see on many doors throughout the Christmas-celebrating world! With included power cord and light bulb, this building will illuminate your layout and add the lively feel you have been searching for.

Moving on to some of the offered accessories from Department 56. Now that you have added a few buildings, your next course of action is to find some figures! Now whether you're a Northerner who is used to the cold climates or a wimpy Southerner that complains when it gets below 30 degrees, you have seen, in movies or in real life, people that resemble these exact figures. These four are dressed for the snow! With long fur coats, thick red scarves and big black boots, these guys are ready to face the cold climates that come around Christmas time. Even the puppy has got his gear on, how cute is that? Each figure stands on a white base resembling snow that will allow each figure to blend perfectly into your Christmas layout.

What’s one of the first things to come to mind, when you think of Christmas? Well maybe not the first but it's up there! String lights! String lights are used in the yard, in the home and on your Christmas tree! One of my favorite things about this time of year is seeing all the decorations houses have up in my neighborhood. Most are really creative, well done and add such a fun glow to the neighborhood. But my dad is one that was never quite able to pull off this look and ended up wrapping the same tree every year in colored lights (Sorry Dad). Oh well, it's the thought that counts! Anyways, your layout needs some color too, so go ahead and click add to cart on these bad boys. I know you’ll be watching the mailbox closely, ready to decorate and illuminate your collection.

MTH 30-90637 O Assembled Ye Olde Christmas Shop with Operating Christmas Lights

This Christmas Shop from MTH has everything you need to add that holiday spirit. No need to buy extra strands of lights, because the sign up top brings enough illumination to light up the whole street! There is no way you're missing this Christmas Shop! With the plastic construction, this building does give off a different vibe than what Department 56 offers. So if you are looking for a more modern addition to your O gauge layout, then this Ye Olde Shop is perfect for you.

MTH 30-11089 O Christmas RailKing Santa Figure Set (Set of 3)

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, right down Santa Claus lane! Next up from MTH,  more modernized figures for your layout. Better be careful with the first Santa, you might wake to the whole house shaking as he struggles to escape from the chimney. Better lay off those cookies Santa! You know they make gluten and sugar free cookies now. I’m just kidding, sugar and gluten are some of the best parts of Christmas.

Dept 56 58943 Christmas in the City "The Wedding Gallery"

Back to Department 56 for our last but not least, Christmas in the City “The Wedding Gallery.” Wow, I think this one is my personal favorite! Just like the first, this building is more on the subtle side, that can be upgraded with lights and figures. The best part is the bride and groom centered in the front window. I cannot think of a more magical time to come together in love, than during the Christmas season! How beautiful would it be to have snow falling, light's glittering and slow carols on, when you're marrying your true love! Or maybe I am just a hopeless romantic? Who cares, a girl can dream right? Well if you want to bring more magic to your layout, then this Department 56, illuminated building is just right for you!

Now that we have browsed our Christmas collection, it is time for you to decide which items need to come with you home. Check out all we have to offer at trainz.com and have a Happy Holidays!
