Lionel 2533502 O Union Pacific LEGACY ET44AC Diesel Locomotive #2692

We’re kicking things off with the impressive Lionel 2533502 Union Pacific LEGACY ET44AC Diesel. Built by Wabtec (formerly GE Transportation) in the early 2010s, this powerhouse earned its reputation for high horsepower and handling demanding freight service. Lionel 2435040 O Baltimore & Ohio Doodlebug Diesel Locomotive #6041

Most commonly used to carry passengers and small quantities of freight, this self-propelled railcar became known as the Doodlebug in the United States. Derived from the insect-like appearance of said cars, these moved at slow speeds down the track. Early models were usually powered by a gas engine, but many were later repowered with a diesel engine. Doodlebugs usually operated alone, though they occasionally pulled a trailer car. In the early 20th century, smaller railroad lines used them to provide passenger and mail service on lightly traveled routes as a more economical alternative to full trains.

Released as part of the 2024 Lionel Cataglog Lineup, this Baltimore & Ohio Diesel Doodlebug became popular with O modern scale railroaders. Unlike vintage doodlebugs released decades earlier, this model comes equipped with LionChief Plus technology and Bluetooth controls. Lionel 2433289 O Norfolk Southern Legacy SD40 SuperBass Diesel Locomotive #6329

Re-engineered from the older SD40 units, this 3,000-horsepower diesel-electric locomotive enhanced freight operations starting in 2008. Originally constructed in the early 1980s, these engines were upgraded to enhance reliability on the railroad. By replacing engines and upgrading technology, the Norfolk Southern SD40E came to life. 

Part of the Lionel 2023 Volume II Catalog, this Lionel 2433289 Norfolk Southern Diesel Locomotive became popular with O gauge model railroader enthusiasts. Though this locomotive is nonpowered and intended to be used in a consist with other engines, it is a SuperBass model, meaning it includes sound, lights and smoke features. Lionel 6-18952 O Gauge ATSF Alco PA-1 Powered Diesel Locomotive #2000

Built by Alco and General Electric between 1946 and 1953, these Alco PA-1s were considered one of the most beautiful diesels made. With 2,000 horsepower and capable of speeds up to 100 mph, these diesel engines were used for premier passenger trains. Thanks to the design work of General Electric’s Ray Patten, this engine features a muscular profile and signature grill, differentiating it from similar EMD and Fairbanks-Morse models. 

Manufactured in 1997, this modern era model was often paired with the nonpowered B unit to complete the prototypical set.
