This is an AF 6-48047 S Scale Union Pacific 4-8-4 Northern Steam Locomotive & Tender. In 1937, the Union Pacific received its first 4-8-4 Northern locomotives. Designated FEF, the steamers quickly became legendary fast freight haulers on the vast western system. First modeled by American Flyer as #332 in 1946, the Northern became a hit on S gauge rails as well. Now, over half a century later, an updated version of this classic locomotive speeds down the American Flyer mainline. Using many of the original tooling dies, the 4-8-4 Northern is constructed almost entirely of die-cast metal. This new reissue also includes the RailSounds sound system complete with whistle, bell and synchronized chuffing features. For operators who prefer a more traditional effect, the RailSounds sound system can be shut off revealing the rhythmic Choo-Choo sound of the mechanical puffing smoke unit. Features include operating couplers, classic A.C. Gilbert reissues, all-new innovative designs, transformer controlled forward, neutral and reverse operation, railSounds sound system with steam sounds, synchronized chuffing, crew announcement, brake squeal, whistle and bell, a powerful maintenance-free motor with momentum flywheel, an operating headlight, die-cast metal locomotive body, frame, pilot and trucks, traction tires, puffing smoke unit with Choo-Choo sound, die-cast metal tender body and frame and trucks.
This item has been graded per TCA standards C-8: Like New based on visual appearance. This item has been out on display previously and its overall appearance could be significantly improved with a thorough dusting or a light wipe down. The original box is included. The instruction manual is included. This item has been serviced by our repair department. Please see the attached picture for inspection details and additional operation information.
