The SD45T-2 was developed to address unique operational concerns on the Southern Pacific Railroad. Numerous tunnels and snow sheds in the High Sierra were causing operational problems for their locomotives, especially accumulation of exhaust gases and excessive heat, commonly resulting in severe overheating or shut down. After extensive testing, Southern Pacific solved this problem by moving the radiator intakes to just above the running boards, creating what we now refer to as a 'tunnel motor'. This locomotive is fully assembled and ready to operate. It features prototype specific details applied, super detailed fuel tank, sliding cab windows, lost wax cast brass horns, factory installed Celcon handrails, see-through radiator fans, dynamic intake grills and exhaust stack, equipped with Quick Plug DCC technology, next-generation drive mechanism with hex drive lines, directional headlights, machined RP25 profile metal wheels, and McHenry scale knuckle spring couplers.
