Atlas O's USRA Double-Sheathed Box Car is modeled after the prototype that was designed by the United States Railway Administration in 1918. Each box car is meticulously crafted to achieve realism and authenticity. This special 2-pack includes the rarest paint schemes that can be found on the Double-Sheathed Box Cars. USA 100000, built in July 1918, was the second car of this type ever built and was used as a demonstrator for the railroads. The goal of the USRA was to provide US rail lines with standardized designs that would quickly offer relief to the WWI car shortages. Nevertheless, not all railroads accepted their allocation of cars immediately. Knowing that it was imperative to get the cars into service, the USRA temporarily assigned General Equipment Trust (G.E.T.) reporting marks and road numbers to over 6,000 single and double-sheathed box cars. This arrangement lasted only 9 months and by August 1920, all cars had officially been accepted by the railroads and re-numbered into their own series.
