This is a Kato USA Inc 106079 N Scale El Capitan 10-Car Passenger Set Amtrak (Phase I; silver, Wide red & blue Stripes). Second only to the Super Chief in importance, Santa Fe's El Capitan offered equally fast travel at more affordable fares. Refitted in 1956 with new Hi-Level cars to provide maximum seating, the unique train was later combined with the Super Chief in 1958 during off-peak travel seasons. Following the change, Amtrak continued to operate the combined Super Chief/El Capitan with the same mix of Hi-Level and standard cars. Based on the trains as they appeared after 1971 in Phase I colors, this set features Unitrak for display and special packaging, along with these cars: Baggage #1027, Baggage-Dormitory Transition Car #9991, Hi-Level Step-Down Coach #9909, Hi-Level Coach #9928, Hi-Level Coach #9931, Hi-Level Diner #9985, Hi-Level Lounge #9972, Hi-Level Coach #9940, Hi-Level Coach #9964, and Hi-Level Step-Down Coach #9907 with illuminated Amtrak tail sign.
