Here is a Lionel 224 Vintage O Gauge Postwar 2-6-2 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive from the 1940s. A tender is not included with this Locomotive. The 224 is one of the few Lionel engines made in both the Prewar and Postwar eras. It features a die cast metal body, rounded cab floor, motor, 3-position E-Unit, and an operating headlight. It does not have a smoke unit, which is why it was dropped from the Lionel line after 1946 and replaced by the smoking 675/2025 engines.
Brought onto the scene in the late 19th century and continuing use into the early 20th century, the 2-6-2 was a durable little model with some even surviving through the first World War seeing continued use in smaller capacities. These models were used for a variety of purposes from hauling coal loads to pulling smaller passenger cars. The North American model soon became known as the "Prairie" model and would quickly become a favorite in rail-yards around the world!
This item has been graded per TCA standards C-5: Good based on visual appearance. This locomotive appears to be missing the entire eccentric assembly on one side and almost the entire other side. This item is also missing its back set of wheels. There are broken pieces of shell missing and deep nicks and scratches on the surface. The wheels show major run-time. The overall appearance of this item may be improved with a gentle and thorough cleaning. This item has small spots of rusting. The original box is not included.
