This is a Lionel 2457 Pennsylvania all tinplate illuminated Caboose from 1945-47. This is the Brown version with Eastern Division, it is the hardest 2457 to locate. Very seldom seen and very scarce car. It is a 1945 caboose that was factory made and assembled out of prewar bodies not used due to the lettering being off center. In 1945, Lionel was very anxious to get out a set and pressed into use some of these caboose bodies that were on hand. It has the classic and desirable whirly wheels, black fiber board flying shoe couplers, small pickup roller. The 2457 is a nice caboose with extra detail. Standard features include painted brown body with white lettering, staple-end trucks with either a single or dual operating coil couplers, interior lighting, metal end railings, ladder and brake wheel at each end plus a battery box, plastic air pump and corner steps. The actual number on the side of the caboose is '477618', while Lionel's catalogue number '2457' number is rubber-stamped on the bottom frame.
This item has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good based on visual appearance. The wiring on this model is disconnected. The overall appearance of this item may be improved with a gentle and thorough cleaning. There are light rub marks and scratches on the surface of the shell and chassis. There are sections of paint chipping on this model. The original box is not included. Please check the photos for a detailed look at this item. Overall condition is Very Good.
