This is a Lionel 3494-150 Vintage O Missouri Pacific Operating Boxcar from 1956. Lionel introduced the 3494 operating box car series in 1955. This longer and more realistic series of operating box cars replaced the shorter, more toy-like 3464 operating box cars. The 3494s share their body with the popular 6464 series box cars. Although the 3494 series ended in 1958 after a brief four years run, it includes some of the hardest-to-find and rarest box cars of the postwar era. All were produced for only a portion of the four years and high quality examples remain in high demand by collectors. While not as eagerly sought after as some other Lionel boxcars, perhaps because of its close resemblance to the common 6464-150 MP boxcar, the 3494-150 was available for one year only and is nearly as hard to find as the more famous 3494-550 Monon and 3494-625 Soo Line boxcars of 1957. Features include plastic construction, die-cast trucks, knuckle couplers and metal wheels and axles. When activated by a UCS track, the door slides open and the figure pops out. It is 10.5 inches long.
This item has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good based on visual appearance. The wheels show average run-time. Some trim elements are misaligned, bent, damaged or missing. This item show scratches, rust and spots of paint loss throughout various sections of the shell and chassis. This item show spots of rust on the chassis, axels, trucks and couplers. The overall appearance of each item may be improved with a gentle and thorough cleaning. The instruction manual is not included. The original box is not included.
