Here is a Lionel 3494-275 Vintage O State of Maine Operating Boxcar from 1956-58. Lionel introduced the 3494 operating box car series in 1955. This longer and more realistic series of operating box cars replaced the shorter, more toy-like 3464 operating box cars. The 3494s share their body with the popular 6464 series box cars. Although the 3494 series ended in 1958 after a brief four years run, it includes some of the hardest-to-find and rarest box cars of the postwar era. All were produced for only a portion of the four years and high quality examples remain in high demand by collectors. This boxcar features sliding doors, die-cast metal bar-end trucks, die-cast metal operating knuckle couplers, a single brakewheel, a plunger mechanism mounted to the frame plus an opening door with a rubber man on the inside of the car, metal wheels and axles. This is the version with the car number printed on the sides.
This item has been graded per TCA standards C-7: Excellent based on visual appearance. The original trucks have been replaced with modern trucks. The wheels show average run-time. This item shows scratches on the shell, chassis, and trucks. This item shows paint loss on the shell next to the sliding door. The overall appearance of this item may be improved with a gentle and thorough cleaning. The original box is not included. The instruction manual is not included.
