This is a Lionel 6-38353 O Gauge X-628 Promotional Navy Outfit Alco A-B Diesel Train Set (PWR A #224P & DMY #224C). A most highly sought after promotional outfit. X-628 Promotional Navy Outfit was listed simply as “Automotive on Lionel’s factory order, and it’s still unclear which customer bought this rare 1961 Lionel outfit. What is known is that set X-628 was packed with operating fun and included an exciting variety of space and military themed cars.
This set included the only individually boxed version of the 3410 operating helicopter car. Of special interest to collectors is the 6017 caboose box that’s overstamped with a -200 extension, making this set one of the most highly sought after promotional outfits produced. Its key features include each car is individually boxed and Postwar-inspired packaging.
Powered Alco A-unit features include: Die-cast metal trucks, Metal frame, Pullmor motor, Electronic e-unit with Direction Lock, Electronic horn and bell with volume control, Operating headlight, Magne-Traction, and Traction tires.
