This is a Marx 333 New York Central 4-6-2 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive and Tender. Features include a powerful motor with reverse unit, an operating headlight, die-cast metal wheels, gears, and chassis. The tender is die-cast and features tinplate metal trucks, metal wheels and axles, and a wedge coupler. Please see my pictures for additional features.
Introduced in its prototype form in the late 19th century, the 4-6-2 would take the world by storm at the turn of the 20th century, being seen as one of the biggest innovation in the history of locomotives -- the 4-6-2 would quickly finds its place in rail-yards across the world. Heralded for its ability to haul passengers, the 4-6-2 was a versatile model hauling freight and coal as well, with tank variants being introduced later during the 20th century. Traveling at speeds upwards of 100mph the 4-6-2was featured on rail-ways ranging from Argentina to Egypt, and all the way to the far East in China! Now's your chance to add some history to your collection.
This item has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good based on visual appearance. There are nicks, scratches, and spots of surface rust on both the locomotive and tender. Additionally, the bodies of both items show areas of paint wear, chips, pitting in some areas of the die-cast, and abrasions throughout their surfaces. Lettering on the tender is also faded due to aging. The overall appearance of these items may be improved with a gentle and thorough cleaning. The wheels show signs of wear from previous use. This item has been inspected by our repair shop. Please see the attached picture for inspection details and additional operation information. Good candidate for a project train!
