The 400E is the most popular and most sought after of the original pre-war tinplate engines. The largest of the Standard Gauge tinplate steamers, this engine was introduced in 1931 and was an immediate sensation. The 400E is best known for pulling the Blue Comet passenger set, but it is also one of only two steamers to pull the large 200-series freight cars, which gives you extra flexibility on your railroad.
Lionel Corporation Tinplate is proud to make the shiny baked enamel finish of this 4-4-4 steam locomotive available to customers in a selection of traditional tinplate colors. Each of these exclusive engines comes outfitted in your choice as a traditional or contemporary Proto-Sound 2.0 equipped model.
