This is a MTH 20-90515 Denver Rio Grande Western 6-Car 55 Ton All Steel Drop Bottom Gondola Car Set. MTH Premier O Scale freight car sets are the perfect complement to many of the locomotives featured earlier in this catalog. They also go great with any manufacturer's scale proportioned O Gauge locomotives.
These intricately detailed new gondolas, in both all-steel and composite versions, are based on general service (GS) gondolas built for the Southern Pacific and Union Pacific in the mid to late 1940s. GS gons carry materials such as gravel, coal, pipe, and logs. While the UP composite cars were built during the war to conserve steel, the SP ordered composite wood/steel cars after the war to save weight when transporting lighter loads such as wood chips and sugar beets. In later years, composite cars were often rebuilt with steel sides. Our models feature detailed, non-operating, drop-bottom doors and door mechanisms.
Each car in these sets is individually numbered for authentic realism. And, each set is available in two item numbers. The second item number features an entirely different set of 6 cars, each also individually numbered, allowing you to obtain a total of 12 different numbered cars if desired. When you prefer the convenience of a ready-to-run unit train, M.T.H. Premier Line 6-car sets are a great choice.
