This is a Broadway Limited 1573 HO Scale Southern Pacific Coast Daylight Train #98 Series Chair Car #2485. This 1953 post-war version features unskirted cars, lettered “Southern Pacific,” and beautifully detailed, accurate passenger cars. The model captures authentic design with correct paint and color schemes, along with many separately applied details including handrails. Interiors are properly colored and fully illuminated, while exterior lighting functions where applicable. Additional highlights include prototypically accurate articulated cars, antennas, and operating full-width sprung diaphragms.
Designed to match seamlessly with PCM SP GS-4 locomotives and PCM Alco PA/PB locomotives, this model offers an exceptional level of realism. The observation car is equipped with a lighted drumhead and marker lights. Both the body and chassis are made of durable ABS material, and the car comes with two Kadee-compatible operating metal knuckle couplers. It is compatible with Code 70, 83, and 100 rail tracks, and requires a recommended minimum radius of 22".
Picture the Southern Pacific GS-4 pulling a string of magnificently painted passenger cars along the California coast. Then imagine the sight of a Cab Forward powering over the steep grade between San Luis Obispo and Santa Margarita—a railfan’s delight. The Morning Daylight was actually two separate trains, #98 and #99, each operating as a unit train. Cars were seldom added or removed, though chair car pairs were sometimes included for extra capacity. Both trains departed San Francisco and Los Angeles at 8 a.m., passed each other near San Luis Obispo, and arrived around 6 p.m. Frequently called “the most beautiful train in the world,” Broadway Limited Imports has modeled both consists and will deliver them in monthly intervals.
