This is a Lionel 2344 Vintage O New York Central F-3 ABA Diesel Locomotive Set from 1950-52. The 2344 is considered by many to be the finest of the Postwar-Era NYC F3s. It features the nice detail of the original 2333 [such as screen roof vents and nose grab irons] but also has magnetraction. Features also include dual motors, a reverse unit, operating lights, operating horns, diecast metal trucks, and metal wheels. This set includes the matching 2344C B-unit.
EXCELLENT Condition
This Lionel 2344 New York Central F-3 ABA diesel set is a beautiful, high-grade example with outstanding vintage presence. The classic gray and silver New York Central scheme presents extremely well, with crisp lettering, sharp striping, clean portholes, and strong overall color throughout all three units. The bodies, roofs, vents, steps, trucks, couplers, and underframes all show very nicely. There are light signs of age, handling, and use consistent with an Excellent-grade set, but the overall presentation remains exceptionally strong.
A particularly nice feature is the New York Central nose decals, which are intact and not flaking. They remain vibrant and attractive, making this set especially appealing from a collector standpoint.
Even better, this set has been professionally serviced and tested. The motors were fully cleaned and freshly oiled, the wheels and contacts were cleaned, and the motor, lights, horn, and electro-coupler were bench-tested and found to be fully functional. The set also tested successfully in Conventional operation.
