This is a Lionel 45N Vintage O Postwar Metal Automatic Gateman from 1945. The gateman was Lionel‘s most popular accessory from the postwar era. This is the earlier all metal version which was subsequently replaced in 1950 with the plastic 145 version. When you put the track trip under the track and the train goes over it the little man comes out of the house with his lantern to say HI! A lantern illuminates until the train passes. This illuminated lantern feature was dropped in the 145.
This item has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good based on visual appearance. This item did not function when it was tested and is being sold as is. There are severe nicks, scratches, and spots of surface rust on body of this item. Some elements are misaligned, bent, damaged or missing. The figures arm is broke and detached. There are small breaks and cracks in the body of this item. The instruction manual is not included. The original box is not included. Please check the photos for a detailed look at this item.
